Online Panel: MENTORING AND ITS BOUNDARIES
April 26th 2023, 10:00 AM UTC, Time: 45min Mentoring and its Boundaries Several factors influence early career scholars' progress, including gender, race, ethnicity, geographical location and socioeconomic status. A number of barriers exist, including gender-based stereotypes, bias, imbalanced roles within the home and caregiving, lack of mentorship, and poor organizational support. A culturally and politically responsive mentoring program can be a powerful tool for enhancing social capital and strengthening capacity. There are some limitations to mentoring, which shouldn't be overlooked. For example, mentorship roles tend to fall disproportionately to women or people of colour. This conversation explores how mentorship must or should be viewed and each panellist addresses ways one can navigate or challenge neoliberal practices within the academy.
